Most plumbing businesses have their primary marketing channels (YellowPages, Internet, Word of Mouth, Signage on trucks, etc) but very seldom to I hear mention of PR (Public Relations) as a marketing channel.
I found a great example of how PR can be used to build community awareness and credibility by Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air out of San Diego. Mary Jean Anderson put out a Press Release on October 9th 2012 showcasing their involvement in fundraising for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
You can see the Press Release online at http://www.marketwatch.com/story/anderson-plumbing-heating-and-air-raising-funds-to-benefit-susan-g-komen-for-the-cure-2012-10-09
Not only is this a great way to raise awareness for the company it will also help her with her online marketing efforts because by pushing this press release out she has been picked up by over 900 media outlets (see the screenshot to the right) all with citations & links pointing back to her company website.
In the press release she also indicates how she is leveraging her involvement to drive more Social Media Engagement as well. “And finally, we will make a donation for every new ‘like’ on our Facebook page during the month of October,” said Anderson.
This is a great use of Public Relations by a Plumbing Business and clearly results in a win-win for the business and the community as a whole. Anderson Plumbing gains exposure, credibility and inbound links while raising money for Brest Cancer Awareness!
